ARS is a high-tech company specializing in acoustic testing and engineering techniques that better simulate the acoustic environment of a rocket launch.
Vertx Partners is proud to call Shepherdstown, WV-based Acoustic Research Systems (ARS) part of its Appalachian innovation network. ARS is a high-tech company specializing in cutting-edge acoustic testing and engineering techniques. Unique to the field of acoustic testing, ARS has built the first proprietary, full-range direct-field acoustic test system for launch simulation. The team at ARS has dubbed it the NEUTRON System, and its ability to efficiently and accurately simulate the acoustic environment of a rocket launch fills a crucial need in the aerospace industry for increased acoustic testing capability with reduced impact to program budgets and schedules.
Working from a “blank slate,” ARS’s founders, Jeremiah Leiter, CEO, and Eric Friedlander, CTO, were intent on learning from key industry contacts what they’d like to see in the next generation of acoustic testing capabilities. After years of interviews and research, ARS unveiled the NEUTRON System, a system specifically designed to address the pain points of acoustic testing customers with enhancements and new technologies in all the right places.
The NEUTRON System has proven so effective that it has received attention from numerous major defense contractors and organizations, including NASA. In fact, ARS was awarded a contract by NASA to provide direct field acoustic testing services for NASA’s VIPER lunar rover program. The direct field acoustic test with ARS’s NEUTRON System will prove invaluable to NASA scientists and engineers keen on ensuring their payload is ready to survive the intense acoustics of the launch environment.
Sean Frisbee, President of Vertx Partners, recognizes that companies like ARS paying attention to these often-overlooked yet critical testing needs make all the difference in furthering aerospace innovation.
“We have great engineers in West Virginia,” Frisbee says. “ARS really reinvented how we do environmental testing with acoustics for the aerospace industry.”
ARS CEO and co-founder Jeremiah Leiter describes Vertx as a “game-changer” for the industry. “The process can be very difficult working within the government sector,” he says. “Sean and his experience knowing how to navigate those waters is really important to us.”
ARS and its team boast more than 80 years of combined experience in high-performance audio, an impressive stat that has made them a serious contender in acoustic research. Besides Friedlander and Leiter, the company also employs Ed Kinsella as Chief Acoustic Designer and Mike Wheeler as Chief Mechanical Designer & Manufacturing Lead. Both meld their love of music and science into their work, infusing their profession with a level of passion that makes their work a cut above the rest.
