An outstanding football and basketball player at Keyser High School in Keyser, West Virginia, J. Edward Kelley, was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1943. In 1945, Kelley was killed in action in Germany and was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor. In his memory, the award was created in 1946 and given to a deserving graduating student at Keyser High School. Taking place at the Church-McKee Arts Center, Vertx’s Founder, Sean Frisbee, will serve as the guest speaker at this year’s ceremony.
